HOMELAND OF WINE
Home to hundreds of indigenous varieties of European grape vine, Turkey played a pivotal role in the early history of wine and has been one of the earliest wine producing regions of the world.
WINE PRODUCING AREAS
Turkey is one of the largest grape producers in the world. The wine production increases however rapidly in Turkey. Professional wineries make wine of a decent quality.
Tekirdag, Edirne, Kirklareli and Canakkale cities in the Marmara & Thrace Region of Turkey has many vineyards near Istanbul. It is the largest wine region of Turkey.
Wine is also widely cultivated in Izmir, Manisa, Denizli, Aydin and Usak provinces in the Aegean Region of Turkey.
The rest of the Turkish wines are produced in Anatolia, the cities are Ankara, Nevsehir, Kayseri and Tokat. The cities that Elazig, Malatya and Diyarbakir in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Regions of Turkey are suitable for producing wine grapes.
